Location, Schedule and Program

The competition is open to everyone, regardless of nationality.
Age limit: 16 to 32 years (dates of birth between 01. Jan. 1989 and 31. Dec. 2008)
Application deadline: 1. May 2024

 

1. Preliminary Round 
     Video recording 10 – 15 min (please check “Rules” concerning the video format and requirements)

     Program: 

  • A slow movement from the Viennese classical period by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven or Schubert (compulsory)
  • A virtuoso etude (compulsory)
  • A piece chosen by the participants (optional)


The announcement of the semi-finalists and the performance times on the 20th of May 2024, 18:00h will be published on this website. The semi-finalists will also receive a confirmation e-mail of their qualification and must confirm their participation by 1st of June 2024.


2. Semi-final: 

     On the 29th and 30th of July 2024
     At the Musikverein Wien, Gläserner Saal

     Program: 

  • A Recital of 45-50 min duration

The program is at the participant’s free choice, but it must contain one major piece or a cycle of pieces from the Viennese classical period (this includes F. Schubert) (Minimum duration: 10 minutes)

The announcement of finalists and detailed schedule:
On the 30th of July 2024, 20:00

Pieces of the preliminary round may also be repeated.

 

3. Rehearsal with orchestra 

     On the 31st of July 2024
     At the Musikverein Wien, Brahms Saal

 

4. Final: 

     On the 1st of August 2024, 18:00 h

     Program: 

     One of the following piano concerti:

  • J. Haydn: Piano Concerto in D Major, Hob XVIII 11

  • W. A. Mozart: All Piano Concerti

  • L.v. Beethoven: Piano Concerti No. 1-5

 

Prizes will be awarded after the final.
